reporting fraud

It is amazing how many unethical business persons there are out there. You try to ignore, thinking karma will catch up to them. But eventually, enough is enough.

Google organic soap once. You will see what I mean. One company claims there soaps are 96% organic. Another says since there is no lye left in the final soap, they just dont count it in their organic calculations. (BTW, they are all in the US, so lye has to be counted). As a consumer who wants organic products, which is more appealing, my honest 88% or their dishonest 96%?

A local soap shop here (and it is quite popular across the country) mislabels every single bar. They state a net wt of 4 oz. I knew several people who had bars and we weighed them all, not a single one was over 3.5 oz. (not to mention the ingredient list was WAY off). Just looking at it next to my 4 plus ounce bar you can tell the huge difference.

I know it may come off as sour grapes, but it is just so dishonest! Soemthing needs to be done. These soapers are giving us all a bad name in my opinion.

Kitchen Sink Scrubby Soap

I inadvertently made the prototype of these while trying to come up with a sugar scrub cube. With some tweaking, I've made a nice kitchen sink soap that works very well for scrubbing tough dishes and cleaning up the sink.

12 oz. MP base
1.5 oz of shea butter (helps soften hands)
3 - 4 ml Orange or Lemon EO (helps cut grease)
color if desired
15 - 20 oz granulated sugar (normal cooking sugar)

Melt base, and stir in melted shea butter. Add about 1/2 of the sugar, EO and color, and stir until incorporated. Continue adding sugar until mixture becomes thickened, does not stir smoothly, and looks grainy. Spoon into molds and allow to cool for an hour or so. Remove from mold, and slice into bars if desired. Do not wait too long to slice-- the bar will be hard! I slice when the soap is set up, but still slightly warm. It may take some experimenting to determine how much sugar you want to add according to how much 'scrub' you want, and what type of MP you are using.

I use a round mold, then slice each into a 1/2 circle bar. The bar should set up and be hard, but slightly pliable when wet. This works very well for removing gunk from your hands after meal preparation, scouring out the sink, and getting cooked-on grime off of pots and pans. This soap works better than anything else I've tried for cleaning broiler pans! I would not use it on a non-stick surface to avoid scratching. Gentle on your hands, too. My 'trial bars' were a big hit with my mom and friends.

Hello,
again me but i have another question but liquid soap. First it is around smell of liquid soap, i use coconut and sunflower oil and when i use it it has that a bit "bad" smell , even if i use EO. If i use glycerin, olive and castor oil the smell will not be there and will only smell off EO.
Another question it is around transparent / colouring the soap. If i cook my soap and i usually dillute it 1:3 the liquid soap will be transparent but i dont like to have yelolow-brown soap i would like to have transparent lavender colour, but asap when i add citric acid to netrulize it (ph 9.11) will lose all transparent.

Can anyone help me on this please? If there is no secret for some recipe will be glad.

Hi I'm new to selling melt and pour. I usually shrink wrap all my soaps but some soaps have depth or certain shapes which are still somewhat exposed to air when wrapped. I'm concerned about selling soap to a customer and having the "dew" come up after their purchase. Is this a common concern? If I don't see anything after two weeks is it considered "safe" or can it "dew" at anytime? How do you handle this? I want to shrink wrap rose soaps and package them in an open box with crinkle paper which is shrink wrapped again. This is also a concern for me when selling party favors in a cellophane bag. I do wrap the soaps but I'm worried about the integrity. Thanks in advance.

Why I love my MP business!

Because I can get a $468 wholesale order out in two day's time! Got the order on Tuesday morning...shipped Thursday afternoon! And credit card payment is in the bank!

Too bad that some CP'ers can degrade MP soapmakers..we make ALL of our own bars! Yes, I've had that done locally where they've said that we are not "real" soapmakers. Sorry....that just degrades the MP base I buy...from WSP...which is the best AND it makes us money!

WSP Shower Gel base makes the best bubble solution EVER!!!

Our family sort of stumbled into enjoying making REALLY big bubbles. I'm not completely sure how it all started, but we now own a fine assortment of bubble blowing gadgets, from bubble swords to bubble machines to 2 foot long bubble wands with movable fabric and plastic pieces.

Anyway, we ran out of bubble solution the other day, and I ran to grab my WSP shower gel base. I diluted it down, and it made the BEST bubble solution ever! We even added some FO and made scented bubbles .. HUGE bubbles more than a foot across!

To anyone else out there who has kids and enjoys blowing bubbles - you have to try it!!

For my loaf M&P soap, I have been using a LARGE size Farberware loaf pan. I do like the size and can get about a dozen or so slices from it. What loaf mold do you like to use and why? I ordered a rectangle long loaf mold from WSP, but I didn't love it.

Aslo, do you use a mitre box? How do you get even slices?

Thanks! Oh, and by the way....I'm new to the forums! My name is Suzanne and I'm addicted to M&P!

Presto Wax Pot

I have received my Presto pot and would like to know: Do I want to melt just what I think I will use? Will reheating the wax (I use Ecosoya CB Advance) change the properties of the wax?

I'll start small to see how it works getting it from the Presto to the pouring pot to the jars but will then want to melt larger amounts....just want to be sure that re-melting won't ruin the wax....It doesn't seem to when I use the double boiler method....Just curious.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

There is palm in everythign ... HELP!

I have decided for personal reasons to reformulate everythign without any palm oil or palm derived ingredients. The last fewsoap batches I did with my normal recipes were disasters for some reason, so it seems like as good of a time as any.

I have the soap recipe I want to use. The problem is the lotions and the shower scrub bars. The lotion has cetyl alcohol and it seems virtually impossible to find coconut derived as opposed to palm derived. The same with stearic. If I am reading right, a coconut derivative is available somewhere.

The solution needs to be vegan, palm free and if it is approved for organics, even better. I wouldnt be opposed to doing an entire reformulation with a decent ingredient. Ideally, though, I would like to find a coconut derived cetyl alcohol

Feel free to PM if you cant post here. THANKS

Just managed to make a real lime soap! I used the juice from sweet lime and it has worked great. Added in silk, goat's milk and calendula with lime eo, litsea & a splash of cederwood. Also added in a tsp of baking soda to bring up the ph of the limes to 8. They tested at a ph of 7.
Spam or not

Hi friends,

I received an email from someone today asking if I ship internationally and what type of payment I accept because she would like to purchase a large order.

I've received spam a couple of times and my gut feeling is to be careful. I answered saying I accept payment through Paypal and I always wait to ship until payment has cleared in my account. I also asked for her website or something to see what she sells.

Question is: how can I be sure if it is or isn't spam? Where is the cut off line?

Thanks,

Crustallization in mp soap

Hi besides overheating, is there any other cause for crystallization? It looks like sugar crystals on my white mp soap. I added 1tbsp Shea butter per pound, melted most in the microwave and stired the rest to fully melt. The crystallization is between the soap and shrink wrap and occurred a few days after wrapping. Even the hardened soap before un molding looked weird, like soap bloom or ash on the surface. Could the texture of the soap cause humidity to be trapped between the wrap and soap? Thanks!
