Does anyone have an effective way to design labels?

I have Photoshop Elements 7 but it might as well be in Chinese because I cannot figure out how to use it.

I'm trying to find backgrounds that print like they show online and I just can't seem to get a handle on it.

If anyone would be willing to share any suggestions- please let me know.

I looked into someone else printing my labels but it just isn't cost effective right now.
Thanks in advance.

Watch your children play and see who they will become. Watch your children sleep and see who they used to be. While you are watching remember who they are NOW.

I use Corel. It's great. I love creating all kinds of labels, hang-tags, business cards, etc.
I'm in the process of getting a new printer and then I'm thinking about offering design and printing services.

I was a die hard Corel fan, and then I got Illustrator. I actually have had both for a long time, but preferred Corel because it loaded much faster and seemed more user friendly. Now here at work, Corporate is leaning on using the whole Adobe line, so I figured I should learn that. Most of my labels are now created in Illustrator (although I print out of pdf), but if I am trying out new fonts, nothing beats the corel for being able to see the typeface before selecting it.

I have Corel too...thank goodness for the inter-web! My learning curve is pretty steep and there are some really nice tutorials out there. I'm still figuring out what it can do; I haven't even thought about making labels yet. blink.gif

You will be surprised at how easy they are to do. You can import all kinds of graphics or files and create any custom size. Please just let me know if you'd like me to help you!

I've found that once I stopped looking at designing labels as a chore and looked at it as a creative outlet instead, it became more fun and less tedious. Your labeling and packaging is the first thing that grabs attention, and will make an impression and give a feel for the product. The products may be the greatest thing since sliced bread but if the packaging doesn't catch their eye and tantalize them to investigate further, then they will never know how great it is.

Most people are visual and your labeling can help establish the impression you want to give, such as Down Home Goodness, New York Chic, Simple and Fresh, Extravagant, Peaceful Bliss, European Charm, etc. You can make customers think almost anything you want about your products based on the eye appeal of what they see. Then you reel them in through the other senses of smell, hear, touch, even taste if that is applicable. Take some lessons from the big guys and commercial. What do they do with their product packaging and labeling that helps them stand out?

Ginger, I agree for the most part. DISCLAIMER****I hoep I am not the only one What I would like to add is that labels are usually done at the end of the process. We work through our formulas, perfecting them, then go into production mode. Then its an "oh crap, I forgot about the labels!". I would venture a guess that most labels are created and printed in the eleventh hour. Under those conditions, its kind of hard to summon up the creative muse.

I have to agree w/ Petra on the eleventh hour. I had a show this past weekend and had approximately 3 hours of sleep when I realized that I hadn't even thought about creating a label. My days leading up had been mixing and formulating, adding this...taking away some of that. Thankfully I was able to get a 2nd wind and muster up some creative juice and produce a label that I loved and that truly caught my customers attention.

Obviously, my muse is hanging out at your house!

I have a store that wants a couple of my soaps to try out. If they sell, she will probalby buy more.
I have all these wonderful soaps sitting on my racks that would love to go to the store, but as of right now, they have no name.

I completely redid my soap lineup and I would like to have some sort of common thread for naming convention. I am drawing a big fat BLANK! Same with my perfumes. I have a handful that show signs of promise and I need names there as well (and labels!).

Oh well... send my muse back home when you're done. I have work to do.

Petra,

So I'm not the only one!!! I was working all last week on making up stuff for the market when I realized....CRAAAAPPPP! I haven't done a label for this the baby linen & air spray! So here I go, rushing to do a label and then it was...CRAAAPPPPP! I've only got X# of labels left. Not enough...CRAAAAPPP! So I did what I could on one sheet for the different scents. Cleared them, cut them and then realized...CRAAAPPP!! Those weren't weatherproof labels, they were repositional labels, which didn't work out when I went to clean off the film that the clear labeling material has on it. So again.....CRAAAAPPPP! (I say it just like Reba McEntire does on her show "Reba", accent and all)

The inspiration for labels and product names come pretty easy for me. If you need some help, let me know. I'll brainstorm with you or for you. You've helped me so much, I would be honored and pleased as punch to be able to help you.

I will only agree to his/her release if you cook some of those steaks and send them via courier.... sleep.gif

I know you said that most if not all of your products are scented with EO's, nothing in that family gives you any ideas? Herbal names? Can you play on any 'bee' related terms?
