Everyone who uses salt bars RAVES about them. The lather is supposed to feel like lotion, and they're supposed to leave your skin really soft. They also stay harder longer. I wanted to try one before I made some, but I haven't been able to find any near me. I know ZUM has a salt bar, but the store near me that carries their soap doesn't carry the salt bar.

And you cannot subsitute another oil for coconut (as far as I understand) because the salt counteracts with the lather of the soap (coconut oil produces big lather), so the high amount of coconut oil is needed to make it lather. And the info I got says that the bars are not drying.
Also anywhere from 50% to 100% of salt is used to make a good bar. And not to use epsom salts cause I guess it just doesn't work.

95% coconut oil
5% castor oil
Total weight of oils was 32 oz, so I used 50% kosher salt (16 oz). Depending on the way these turn out, I might up the salt the next time. I also used half water and half coconut milk.
Here's another recipe that I've seen people RAVE about:
100% coconut oil
100% coconut milk
.You don't have to use the coconut milk. I just like the creaminess it seems to add to the lather.
You make them like you do your regular soap, and stir the salt in at trace. Some add it at a thick trace, but I stirred in the salt at a light trace with no problems. They set up pretty fast, so you want to cut them after about an hour or two at the most, otherwise they'll be too hard to cut (if you're using a loaf mold.) I insulated, then discovered that was unnecessary. Lots of people use individual molds to avoid the cutting issue. Mine cut with no problems.

I have been experimenting with liquid soap and creme soap most recently and have enjoyed those so I think I will try this next.

I think I'm going to probably love these salt bars. I don't think the pics do them justice:
The lather really is silky...like lotion! My hands felt really soft and moisturized.
