Now I have made salt bars before and have never had a problem. This time they wont harden they have been in the oven for over 3 hours . I took the loaf out and still soft. What to do?

If they are not to soft to cut, just cut and put them away for a few months. If you used dead sea salt that can be a problem. Aslo superfatting after trace can upset salt bars in my experience. Did you change your amount of salt? If you used less that can make a large difference. I have had a few I actually had to let sit for 4 to 5 months. Hope they work out for you. I hate wasting ingredients. Salt bars can actually be rebatched and all the salt will not melt.

It was the same recipe I just tried to swirl it lol. Well I took it out of the oven and in 10minutes it was hard enough to cut but the ugliest soap lol. I will post pics when I figure out how to do it from this pad

Those actually look pretty good to me! If you hadn't told us you were unhappy with them, I would have just written "Those look great! What scent did you use?" LOL!!

What scent DID you use? :-) And how did you get that blueberry color?

Thanks........ I used relaxing from WSP and the blue ultramarine powder. I mixed the color with the salt before adding to the mixture. Then I mixed a little more color after I poured most of the soap in to get the darker blue color.

I went to the store to get the Pink Himalayan salt, but it was so freekin' expensive that I left it there. I used kosher salt the first time, and a 3 pound box was $2.29 at Kroger. I bought some sea salt to use for the next time, and it was a little more expensive.

I found a salt in the bulk section on my local health food store, it's just called "real mineral salt" or something and it's pink, then I got some course Himalayan salt to sprinkle on top. I also found some black salt (really expensive) but I couldn't help buying a little and I can't wait to use it!

I had to make a Sam's Club Run today and checked in the spice Isle, they have Tone's Sea salt, for 35oz, $3.88
that's affordable.

I may get a little of the hymalayan, to decorate with, lol. like just sprinkle some over the top.

I love how beautifully white your salt bars are Elke! Is there an FO in that one? Do you have a favorite recipe you use for salt bars? Do you use colors for any of your batches?

Okay, I have just made the ugliest salt bar ever. I don't know what happened. Well yea I do. I was trying to use the HP method but forgot to add SL and a little extra water. After the cook it was hard like thick grits, so I added some coconut milk to it. Funny funny funny because as I was stirring it started to lather. I then put the salt in ( determined to make it work) added fragrance a little color. Well lol it then looked liked cottage cheese only much harder so I had to smash it into the mold. http://i1216.photobu...0411_235158.jpg http://i1216.photobu...0412_000744.jpg

I used 25 oz of Coconut
4 oz of Castor
4 oz of Olive
2 oz of Palm
2 oz of Fragrance (cucumber/mint)
35 oz of Sea Salt

I rarely add coloring, when I do, it's usually an herbal powder or a clay, I too was surprised on how white they were.
I might dissolve some pink seasalt, and maybe do a swirl, you know how I like to experiment, lol.

cant wait to try them, and they smell so fresh, Iove that scent, I used 1 oz cucumber, and 1 oz peppermint.

Prissy Miss, don't use SL for salt bar, as it's a hardner.
hopefully it will harden up to where you can slice it without too much crumble.

I haven't tried a HP Salt Bar yet, but you know I will, lol.

sometimes our "mistakes" are our best soaps.

Well I hope so. So I guess my problem was not enough water?
