WHY does my soap smell like the fats/oils I use

I'm fairly new to this soap making thing. I started doing it a couple years ago, got away from it but i'm back at it. My question for you is why does my soap smell like the fats/oils that I use to make it, no matter now much or little scent i use for it... I've tried the essential oils, rebatched it and added more EO, and the last batch I made i used FO and that was even worse (i think the scent i chose mixing with the vegetable oils was not a good combination to begin with) when i smell others homemade soaps, i don't notice the slightest hint of the "fats/oils"... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? So far (this go 'round) i'm only doing hot process, have not done CP for a couple years... HELP PLEASE, i want to make delicious smelling soap, that i know what is going in to it and to use on my childrens delicate skin. THANK YOU!!!

When you add the fragrance make sure that the temp. of the soap batter is below the flash point.

A book that introduces you to different soaping methods is The Everything Soapmaking Book by Alicia Grosso. I also found the 2 books by Ann Watson to be helpful. All of these books give recipes but just run them though a lye calculator to make sure of the numbers.
I have to say that what has been the most helpful has been reading different soaping forums and learning from the exeriences of others. You also have a support group that can help you with any issues that may come up. Happy soaping!
