Question about WSP Salt Bar recipe
Posted 05 November 2012 - 12:38 AM
I finally took the salt bar plunge today and am really excited to see what the bar is like.
I used the recipe on WSP: 80% CO, 15% Avocado oil, 5% Castor, 20% SF and I used 100% salt ( blend of Kosher and Himalayan pink) . The FO I used was WSP Ginger Lime. Oh and I used coconut milk instead of water to mix up my lye.
The recipe called for pre-heating the oven to 170 and then turnining it off and placing the soap loaf in the oven for 2 hours. I did this and then immediately cut the loaf and it cut just fine. Was this considered a CPOP method? If so, what is the cure time for these salt bars?
(I would post a pic if I could! The site will not let me)

For instance, if you upload a picture to www.photobucket.com, you will see a link under your picture for "photo embed". Click on it to copy the HTML, and then paste it in your post, and you will be good to go. Alternatively, you can use the "image" button when you compose a post, enter the URL of your photo (it needs to have its own unique URL) and it will display in your post.

It does, however, smell awesome. I love this FO.

How does this look?
10 % Castor (my regular recipe is 8% castor and although it bumps up the cure time, I love the bubbles)
10 % Avacado (should I try something else?)
5% unrefined Shea
Soap Calc does not show this to be a lot different from the original recipe I tried. But I understand that nothing takes the place of a good cure. So maybe I just have to be patient? I do love how hard this bar is and am shocked that the salt is not scratchy.
In the mean time, i want to mix up another recipe or 2 to test. I do a Winter Farmers Market and would sure love to debut a salt bar there in Jan or Feb.
The FO is awesome! Its 3/4 Ginger Lime and 1/4 Exotic Coconut. If you are looking for a refreshing unisex scent, try it! It might just be my new favorite.
